Zero Proof Christmas Mulled Wine
This Christmas, as the winter chill settles in, gather your loved ones and enjoy a glass filled with a warming aroma of holiday spice. Our zero-proof festive mulled wine recipe offers exactly that—a comforting embrace for every guest at your table. Gently steeping deep, jammy notes of a non-alcoholic Shiraz with aromatic cinnamon, cracked cardamom, and bright citrus, this recipe creates a truly restorative sensory experience. It serves as a beautiful reflection of Proverbs 17:22: “A joyful heart is good medicine.”
At the heart of the season is the celebration of Jesus, the true source of our joy and peace. As Isaiah 9:6 beautifully prophesies: “For to us a child is born, to us a Son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder, and His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

Zero-Proof Christmas Mulled Wine
Prep time: 10 minutes
Simmer time: 20–25 minutes
Servings: 4–5
Ingredients
1 bottle (750 ml) Smoky Bay 0.0% Non-Alcoholic Shiraz Red
1 large orange (zested in wide strips, then juiced)
1 to 2 tbsp granulated sugar or maple syrup (optional)
1 whole cinnamon stick
2 whole cardamom pods (gently cracked)
6 whole cloves
6 whole allspice berries
6 whole black peppercorns (essential to balance the fruitiness of the 0.0% wine)
OR use your favourite Christmas spice mix!
Prep the Aromatics: Peel wide strips of zest from your orange (avoiding the white pith) and extract the juice. Lightly bruise the cardamom pods with the side of a knife so the inner seeds can infuse.
Combine the Base: In a large pot or Dutch oven, stir together the orange zest, orange juice, cracked cardamom, cloves, allspice berries, black peppercorns, and the single cinnamon stick.
Pour the Liquids: Empty the entire bottle of Smoky Bay 0.0% Shiraz into the pot. OPTIONAL Add a zero-proof spirit alternative (or brewed black tea + vanilla extract). Do not add the sugar yet.
Warm Very Gently: Place the pot over low heat. Because non-alcoholic wines do not contain alcohol to lower the boiling point, they can overheat quickly and lose their delicate fruit structures. Bring the liquid to a gentle steam, but do not let it simmer or boil.
Steep: Cover the pot and let the flavors marry over low heat for 20 to 25 minutes.
Taste and Adjust: Ladle out a small sip. Because Smoky Bay is naturally round and fruit-forward, you may find it is already perfectly sweet. If you prefer a traditional, sweeter mulled wine profile, stir in 1 to 2 tablespoons of sugar until dissolved.
Strain and Serve: Pour the mixture through a fine sieve into holiday mugs. Garnish with a fresh cinnamon stick or a thin wheel of fresh orange
